This isolated refuge has an incredible diversity of wildlife. Bring your binoculars and see how many of the 350 species of birds found in the area you can spot. These species include storks, roseate spoonbills, herons, snakebirds, and cormorants. Your guide will explain how these animals fit into the wetland ecosystem. In the shallows you might see a caimans and turtles. Monkeys and sloths sometimes gather in the trees near the banks of the river. During this 9-hour tour your guide will provide bottled water and snacks. Eventually you’ll take a break and partake in a typical Costa Rican lunch.
This three-hour tour will take you into the rainforest to see an incredible variety of birds. This is an early-morning tour that begins at 5:00 am. Early morning is the best time of day to see birds – this is when they’re the most active. Your guide will take you to the best spot for seeing this area’s rare species, and will pick a trail based on the time of year. You might end up hiking around the Arenal Volcano, a local reserve, or Arenal’s hanging bridges.

Your guide knows where they like to relax after a tiring day of eating leaves, and spotting a sloth in the wild is all but guaranteed. Sloths aren’t all there is to see. Much of the terrain surrounding Arenal Volcano is secondary rain forest, but the quickly shifting terrain means that you can encounter a variety of critters. Along the way, you might spot toucans, monkeys, leaf cutter ants, and poisonous blue jeans dart frogs. Don’t forget your camera and binoculars!

This wonderful reforestation project has attracted hundreds of species of wildlife and has become a great example of the regenerative power of the tropical forests. Visitors will receive a flashlight and an experienced bilingual guide that will lead you on a very well groomed and flat trail. Throughout the walk you will learn of the differences and special adaptations used by the nocturnal animals.
